 In 2000, a group of 62 coffee growers in Honduras united with the shared objective of converting their farms to organic production, leading to the establishment of COMSA (Cafe Organico Marcala, S.A). With support from the Funder foundation in 2001, they achieved organic certification through Bio Latina, enhancing their ability to reach international markets and secure higher prices for their coffee. In February 2006, COMSA successfully obtained Fair Trade certification. The additional income from Fair Trade premiums is allocated to various community initiatives, such as funding teachers' salaries and providing school supplies.
